A trip to smolspace
So there I was, about a weeks time ago, minding my own business, when a wild something appeared.
I don't actually recollect what it was that set me onto Geminispace, most likely a YT video or an article in my endless feeds.
I do however remember opening up my software installer and searching for Gemnini, then installing everything that came up, everything being a large word as it was 4 packages.
A trip of browsers
Geopard, gplaces, profectus and Lagrange, were their names and flatpak was their game. I found myself going through them like Goldilocks, one being too hot, one being too cold and one I could not figure out how to use and real men don't read manuals, they cry in their fragile masculinity!
I then tried Lagrange and it couldn't be more "just right", I like the idea of Gemini, but Lagrange makes that idea absolutely exquisite. I love how the bookmarks, feeds and everything else is one interconnected unit, based on the same idea, I love the simplicity of it and I love how easy identities are to use. This wasn't a Lagrange review though...
Identity crisis
Identities is a part of Gemini that really intrigued me, I read an article a few years back (can't find it anymore, I'm sorry, let me know if you know it) on the idea of using certificate chains for identities. Shortly explained, the idea was to put your pub certificate on an identity server and subsequently creating a new pub.crt for services you log into, in chain with your identity server. Both servers would also point at each other, slowly building you a digital identity and making you more and more verified to others.
Sorry for the long blob there, but as you can see, this is part of why I needed to go to Geminispace and use identities and be part of what I consider the future of digital identities.
So what's next
Well now I'm here, I feel like I am going to stay, but only time will tell. The more I use Lagrange and project Gemini, the more I feel like I want to help expand it, the more I feel it needs to be a thing. The web was taken from us and project Gemini found a way to give it back, I admire that.
