Re: Wide Technology
I am not sure I like the term "Wide Technology", but I do like the sentiment behind it.
Instead of being a complainer, I would suggest we call it Analogue or Physical Technology?
The devices that don't go pzzt
a hand-wound mechanical pocket watch
I somehow managed to lose my dads old pocket watch many years ago, which saddens me. It just worked and I was very happy to just carry it around and it makes for a good fidget spinner when winding it. 😂 They are difficult to find or expensive these days, so I doubt I will get another one.
As it happens, I had a thought to build a sundial in my backyard, track the passage of time with it
I had a similar inspiration from Vi Grey's post, but I already have too much to do around the yard, to the point where I considered getting a mini excavator.
This leads me a thought I had the other day, in the similar lane of "Wide Technology", what I needed was to dig holes in specific places and to lower beams into some of those holes. While a mini excavator can do that, maybe that is a bit excessive?
It made me think of how people did this stuff 100+ years ago and maybe building a mobile medieval wooden crane would be able to accomplish this?
The scale of things
We probably all know I will never get around to buying an excavator, let alone build a medieval crane, but it would be one of those cool super low tech things I would love to own.
So if anyone has a suggestion for a middle ground here, I am all ears! I don't mind building things and am good with my hands, but time is limited, so building an entire crane by hand, will be decades in the making. 😂
